Today is Monday, 26 October 2026. Gold prices fell last week and are now steady. World gold is around $4,000 an ounce.

Why did gold fall? Oil prices went up because of the Gulf conflict. This makes people expect higher US interest rates, and that usually pushes gold down. The US central bank meets this week, with a decision on Wednesday night.

What does this mean for you? Gold jewellery is a little cheaper than it was last week. But the dinar also matters. In Baghdad, the market closed on Saturday at 168,750 dinars per $100.

Example: One mithqal of 21K gold weighs 5 g. Its gold value today is about $563. At Baghdad’s market rate of 1,687.5 dinars per dollar, that is about 949,000 dinars, before the shop’s making charge.

Our advice: Ask for the gold weight, the karat and the making charge separately. Keep your receipt. Compare the price per mithqal, not just the total.

The honest caution: Gold prices go up and down. Nobody can promise a price. Buy what you need and can afford, and do not borrow money to buy gold.
